Active Teaching Lab: Top Hat and Canvas

Friday, October 26, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 9:45 am

Scroll down to Register! Are your lectures keeping students engaged? How do you know whether students need more explanation or a faster pace? Top Hat, part of the Learn@UW suite of learning technologies, is a student response system (SRS) that is integrated in Canvas. It can help instructors measure student comprehension, gauge reactions to a topic, and foster discussion throughout the course of a lecture. We exchange ways instructors are using Top Hat to enrich teaching.

Walk-ins welcome but registration appreciated to ensure refreshments for all. Bring your laptop or mobile device for hands-on experimentation. Have opinions or experience on the topic? Sign up as a contributor.

The Active Teaching Lab is a Faculty Engagement program with sessions held on Thursdays from 1:00-2:00pm (room 302) and Fridays from 8:30-9:45am (room 120) in the Middleton Building (1305 Linden Dr.) during fall 2018. Check out upcoming Labs or read the recaps from past Labs. We build interdisciplinary conversations that are more emergent than a presenter and more dynamic than a panel — a conversation with colleagues sharing challenges, solutions, and experiments on topics selected by a variety of stakeholders.

Sign up for regular Lab announcements by sending an email to join-activeteaching@lists.wisc.edu.
