R2C Studio: Assessing student learning

Thursday, June 2, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

In this workshop, learn about assessment as a tool for improving learning. Assessments can help you and your students know what they’ve accomplished, and provide opportunities to improve.

We recommend attending the June 1 workshop or reviewing the Writing Learning Objectives handout to familiarize yourself with that step, which comes before the assessment of student learning that is examined in this workshop.

Before the workshop, we also recommend that you read our summary of selected assessment types and sources that provide evidence of student understanding. In the workshop, we will further discuss designing formal and informal assessments of student learning, and communicating with students about expectations and performance feedback.

You will have time to draft and discuss one or more example assessments for a course topic. Bring an idea of a course learning objective that you’d like to work on ideas for assessing.

This is part of a nine-part series developed by Faculty Engagement‘s Research-to-Classroom Studio. Everyone is welcome to attend the entire series or drop-in for a single workshop.
