R2C Studio: Identifying students’ prior knowledge, and remediating gaps

Monday, May 23, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Register

Research tells us that one of the best ways to foster learning is to build from what students already know. Sometimes the students have appropriate and accurate knowledge that predisposes them to engage in what lies ahead in a course. Other times, what they know or believe can get in the way of learning more. In this workshop, we discuss ways to identify what the students already know and the extent to which that knowledge is accurate. You will have time to work on a plan for your course, by identifying the knowledge requirements, and strategies for bringing out and assessing students’ prior knowledge.

We have created short recommended background readings for this workshop.
