Parent Access to Canvas Courses | Academic Technology

To review their student’s coursework, parents and guardians can set up access to Canvas. Accessing Canvas can be done through a web browser or the Canvas Parent App. Below are directions that are also available to download as a PDF.

Canvas Parent Web Browser

1. Open Canvas URL

In a browser window, enter this specific URL https://wisconsin-madison.instructure.com/login/canvas

2. Click to Register

Click the account link at the top of the page that says “Parent of a Canvas user? Click Here for an Account”

3. Enter Signup Details

Enter the following information:

Enter your name in the Your Name field.
Enter your email in the Your Email field.
Enter a password for this account in Password field
Re-enter that same password in the following box
Enter your student’s Pairing Code in the next field

Agree to the terms of use
Click the Start Participating button.

4. Get Started

While your account is not entirely set up, you can begin participating in Canvas immediately. To finish registering for Canvas, log into your email account. Open the email from Instructure Canvas. To visit the provided URL and complete the registration process, click the link provided.

Canvas Parent App

1. Download the Canvas Parent App

Open the application and click “Find My School”

2. Search for “Madison ITA”

Click the option that says “University of Wisconsin – Madison ITA”

3. Click to Register

Click the link at the bottom of the page that says “Create Account”

4. Enter Signup Details
