On October 30, 2019, participants of the Active Teaching Lab continued the discussion on learning analytics (LA). The focus was on tips and strategies for using Canvas Analytics and other analytics options to improve your teaching and course design.
- Course Design: LA can inform instructional design decisions with data on how students interact with online course materials.
- Personalized Learning: Adaptive or individualized learning systems apply learning analytics to customize course content for learners. Like Facebook and Google ads, user profiles and other data can support targeted interventions.
- Predict Student Performance: LA can attempt to predict learning performance to identify and target support for likely at-risk students. Data can prompt instructors to intervene early.
- Visualize Activities: LA could produce data visualizations of online learning activity behavior to inform student and instructor motivations, practices, and efficiency.
